Finally a teaser for you those of you who are interested in my animation FYP, Project X². Here is a compilation of the production stuff, but first please let me address the development of this whole animation...

Originally when we started drafting ideas for our FYP plot, we came up with a story that involved a boy who fell asleep in class and dreamt that he is now a warrior who is on a mission to save his real life crush, who is now a princess, captive to a dragon. The main character would rival another warrior who wanted to sabotage him and get the princess himself, but ultimately fails and the main character gets to rescue the princess in the end. As the main character was about to kiss his damsel in distress, he wakes up from the dream where the teacher scolds him for sleeping in class, all his friends laugh at him including his crush. I expressed great dislike for this story, but I kept it to myself, cause I thought it was too late voicing out anything having already let my teacher approve the story.

At the same time we were designing the characters for this story, my buddy Danial, :iconrejectedsg: , came up with the designs you see above (Yes, these designs were meant for this story originally). But the one who came up with the story and our slacker in the group, rejected Danial's designs and Danial was really offended. We didn't want to express our feelings to our slacker in our group, cause we didn't want any trouble and were just too soft. I realized I brought in someone who bossed people around to get what he wants only. No, I disagree!  He ultimately did almost no animation in the end, his work was so crap we had to edit ourselves after he refused to fix his own animations. His name is Victor to get it out.

Eventually I expressed my feelings on my Facebook status about the FYP story as I was very unhappy it was a cliché plot. My both friend and group leader noticed it. He told me he felt the same way and the whole group did also except for that slacker in our group, Victor, as he was the one who came up with the story idea. We decided to change the story without his consent (we had our group leader on our side anyway, what's Victor gonna do? We were just being too soft) and we decided to use Danial's character designs for our new sci-fi story, rejecting the proposed one. My group leader came up with an all new story in minutes, seriously amazed and I loved it so much better that it's unique and surprisingly fits Danial's character design. Our teacher approved it thankfully while Victor just stood there and said he felt our original story was cliché too, whatever, now you say it is! (I was very happy we rejected his story concerning a warrior, princess and a dragon. What world is he living in seriously? He's 23 btw and still behaving like a child while we're all 18) *Face palm*

Now having a new story we were thinking of a new title, Victor suggested Project: Cyclops. To my dislike, as it doesn't sound good and was too centred on the supporting characters, the Gordoms (those green creatures at the top), which Victor designed. -_- (There you go again trying to have your creations to be the focus), we ended up taking that title till the last minute where we changed it again without his consent to Project: X². We all felt it wasn't good and unique enough, Victor was shocked over the change, apparently unhappy all his ideas getting rejected.

BTW, I want to point out our title has a hidden meaning behind it, two words, if you can figure out what "X²" means, you've figured out the whole theme to the story. ;)

So that's pretty much the development part..

Now I shall go about what's the stuff we have here:

1. Character Design

At the very top we have our main characters on the original draft designed by Danial, inspiration for the designs came from the video game "Spiral Knights". The proposed colours are next, but our teacher suggested at making the colours more similar to each other so audience can identify easier. The blue-faced Isaac looked weird to me anyway so we decided to go with it. But I felt the second colour choice was too plain now, so we placed back Kelly's original pink face (I regret not using her original clothes in the end as it looks unique from the rest of the cast, the final's good also anyway) and messed with Isaac's face colours a little to get it better. Anonymous will have both colours seen on pic 3 and 4 for reasons you'll find out in the animation.

The final character turnarounds were done by Danial, I touched up a little on my own adding missing details.

The four sliver characters at the right last column are the Wisteria soldiers who have a minor role in the story, only the first two appear in the animation itself. Designed and coloured by Danial as well.

The green looking creature is the Queen of the Gordoms designed by Victor, he based it off Medusa of the Greek mythology and named the character "Queen Medusa" which I honestly thought was stupid, give a unique name at least. Followed by her is the Gordom soldiers designed by Victor also. He designed a Gordom Commander that wasn't used as there was no place for it. The Queen's staff is next to the commander. (Honestly speaking we all didn't like Victor's designs as we felt it wasn't fitting at all, we were all scared to voice our opinions to him)

The last two guy and girl characters are the Wisteria Police designed by Danial, who will appear at the very end briefly for reasons you'll find out.

2. Props

These were all designed by me except the sabres which Victor designed. The Sabres were tweaked slightly in the animation. Isaac's gun was spelled "Sniper", was supposed to be "laser gun". My mistake.. Sweating a little...  The remote changed it's design last minute, we could not fix all the scenes in time and it pretty much confused audience why the design kept changing. But it's fixed now, this is the final design, the original had just a single button. You should know why we changed that, very unrealistic..

3. Character Expressions and Poses

All of these were drawn by me. Yeah, just enjoy them. Meow :3

4. Backgrounds

Our BG artist Ryan designed the backgrounds while Danial coloured them digitally. All of which you'll see in the animation. The Satellite at the very bottom will play a crucial role in the story which you'll see why.

5. DVD Cover and CD Design

The cover ideas were all designed and drawn by me while Danial coloured them. Yup pretty cool we have our own DVD, it's a requirement for FYP Animation. I have the original thumbnail ideas for the covers but I have no scanner, iPhone isn't my choice of photography in this kind of thing. I'll post it up some other time if you all like. I've touched up the DVD cover myself, as there were some mistakes and added in some stuff like the glow around the text if you notice.

The last is the CD Cover which we could only finish after the FYP date itself. :( It may be useless now but I take it as good practice anyway cause I would love to do these kind of things in the future. It was done by me. You'll see our group logo at the very bottom,"Artivist", it was designed and coloured by Danial.

Alrighty, you've just gone over the production stage of our animation FYP, hope you've enjoyed looking at it and I apologize if this is too lengthy, just wanted to tell the full story. The animation will be up next week! ;D

Please do not steal or use without permission. You'll be haunted down.

It's really insightful to see and read about the development and thought process of your FYP (including handling opposing ideas of that one person in your group :shakefist: ).  I don't come across such lengthy (not that I mind, though! :) ) dev stuff often, so thank you for sharing :D

And yes, I've read through the whole thing. :)
